Posted by on Monday, 21 May, 2012

MADRID (Reuters) – Spain said on Monday it would meet its deficit targets this year despite a new slippage in its regions’ accounts and a further contraction of the economy in the second quarter. Economy Minister Luis de Guindos said economic activity would likely slump by another 0.3 percent between April and June, further fuelling doubts about the country’s ability to get a grip on in its finances and nurse an ailing banking sector back to health. …

Punitive Liberalism Updated

Posted by on Monday, 21 May, 2012

(Steven Hayward) Charles Schumer, rich man hunter Last week in a post about “ punitive liberalism ” I offered the view that “it is possible that [Eduardo] Severin [the Facebook co-founder who renounced his citizenship] will actually pay more in taxes to the U.S. by leaving the country than if he’d stayed for a simple reason.  If he’d stayed, he’d only owe taxes on his Facebook wealth if he sold his Facebook stock .  If he never sold much of his stock, he’d never owe anything.  If he wants cash, he could borrow against his stock; ditto for investing in some other business ( as he says he wants to do ).  Heck, the interest might even be tax deductible if he used the borrowings for another investment.

Paleface Warren Caught in Another Lie… Her Generation’s Old ‘Pow Wow Chow’ Recipe Was Lifted From Better Homes & Gardens

Posted by on Monday, 21 May, 2012

Paleface Elizabeth Warren – No Speakum Truthum Boston Herald The Democrat’s favorite phony Indian, Elizabeth Warren, was just caught again… in another lie. In 1984 Warren contributed recipes to a cookbook, edited by Warren’s cousin Candy Rowsey, of tribal cuisine. The book is a compilation of “special recipes passed down through the Five Tribes families.” Well she lifted her “Herbed Tomatoes” recipe from Better Homes and Gardens. The Boston Herald reported: They ought to change the name of the next edition of “Pow Wow Chow” to Pow Wow Ciao, and Granny Warren can write a farewell address to any moonbats left who believe anything she says. We now have found lifted Recipe No. 3 — “Herbed Tomatoes” originally appeared in the September 1959 edition of Better Homes and Gardens. OK, this is not quite as delicious (in more ways than one) as cold crab omelet. Granny did make a few changes. Lieawatha’s “Herbed Tomatoes” was originally “Hot Herbed Tomatoes.” And she cut one of the 10 ingredients — one-half teaspoon monosodium glutamate. Apparently MSG was not available at the Muskogee Stop & Shop in 1856. Oh yeah, and “butter or margarine” became “butter.” Again, margarine is more commonly associated with white-eyes’ cuisine. The Native American emeritus (she now calls herself an “Okie”) even added a line at the end of the recipe that isn’t in the magazine: “Great accompaniment to plain meat and potatoes meal!” Whew! The fake Indian known as Sitting Duck added eight whole words after the recipe. This was tracked down at the Manchester, N.H., public library by my associate Larry Bruce. Great work, Larry. Yesterday, I got an email from a woman named Sandy who had read something online called “Warren Witch Hunt.” Don’t you love it? If Scott Brown were caught “checking the box” and backing up fake minority status by lifting alleged old Indian recipes from the New York Times [NYT], it would be “speaking truth to power.” Go after a liberal, and it’s a “witch hunt.” Or a distraction. “It is incredible to me,” said Sandy, “that any(one) would stoop to searching the Recipe Files of a candidate in an effort to prove dishonesty.” Sandy, baby, she started it. Nobody heard of “Pow Wow Chow” until “Elizabeth Warren — Cherokee” cited it as proof of her Indian heritage , of which she has none. These are supposed to be old Indian recipes. They’re not that old, they’re not Indian, and they’re not hers. And I repeat, she … is … not … an … Indian. It looks like old Sitting Duck has had a very difficult month.

Brent edges up toward $108, Greece weighs

Posted by on Monday, 21 May, 2012

LONDON (Reuters) – Oil prices edged higher on Monday, nearing $108 per barrel as worries about Greece’s possible exit from the euro dominated the agenda, despite the prospect of an economic stimulus in China and concerns about Iran as talks with world leaders start this week. A summit of the G8 at the weekend failed to deliver any signal that Europe would act quickly to address the risk of a chaotic Greek exit from the euro, leaving investors in a state of alert, curbing an upturn in oil prices. “Gains may be short-lived as EU politicians as usual are having a hard time agreeing on anything. …
