It Begins… Democrats Schedule Senate Meeting to Regulate Gun Sales
John I had no idea what Scott was talking about when he wrote that Barack Obama got his complaint that “they talk about me like a dog” from a Jimi Hendrix song. I didn’t like Hendrix even at the time, and havent listened to him in decades. But Yahoo News has picked up Scott’s theme, without attribution: Has President Obama been listening to a lot of Jimi Hendrix lately? With just under two months to go before Election Day, Obama kicked off the fall campaign season Monday with an aggressive speech targeting Republicans. But it was an off-script moment in the speech that’s attracted the most attention, as Obama accused his GOP critics of talking about him “like a dog.” … Though Obama didn’t acknowledge it, the line was a verbatim quote from “Stone Free,” the first song Hendrix wrote after moving to England in 1966. “They talk about me like a dog,” the song says. “Talkin about the clothes I wear. But they don’t realize they’re the ones who’s square.” It’s unclear if Obama consciously or unconsciously cited the lyric. A White House spokesman did not respond to requests for comment. OK, it’s possible that someone at Yahoo, like Scott, recalled the Hendrix lyric. But I doubt it; I don’t think Yahoo has any employees old enough to remember him.

Coincidence? I Think Not!
This is about the time when Democrats thought—or perhaps hoped—the political clouds that have hung over them all year would begin to lift. Instead, those clouds may actually be getting darker. Go here to see the original: Get Ready for an Anti-Incumbent Wave

Get Ready for an Anti-Incumbent Wave
-By Warner Todd Huston President Obama dutifully went to Wisconsin today under orders from his union patrons to make a big show of his support for union thugs on Labor Day. The bought and paid for president gave his remarks ( text of prepared remarks ) as expected but there was a little wrinkle this time. Apparently the poor widdle president is upset at his critics. He whined to his union patrons that his critics “talk about me like a dog.” President Obama, I, for one, would never insult dogs like that. “They talk about me like a dog.” Obama: They talk about me like a dog (CNN) – Those following President Obama’s prepared remarks during a speech in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Monday were thrown a bit of a curveball when it came to a description of his critics: “Some powerful interests who had been dominating the agenda in Washington for a very long time and they’re not always happy with me. They talk about me like a dog. That’s not in my prepared remarks, but it’s true,” he told a crowd largely consisting of union members. The line was a rare departure from a president who normally sticks close to the text of his speech and may forecast a more aggressive tone on the part of Obama as the midterms approach. The address is the first of two speeches this week in which Obama will try and frame his administration’s response to the recession, less than two months ahead of midterm elections where Democratic majorities in the House and Senate are on the ropes.

Obama Panders to Union Thugs on Labor Day And Whines, “They Talk About Me Like a Dog” (Video)
What a shock. Whiney Obama blamed George W. Bush for the economy today in his Labor Day speech. Obama is the worst jobs president since the Great Depression. The Obama-Pelosi economic plan resulted in a cumulative 7.5 million jobs deficit . By every objective measure the democrat’s Trillion dollar stimulus bomb was a complete disaster. But, since when did facts matter to “That One.” Obama blamed Bush and smeared his record today in his Labor Day speech. The Hill reported, via FOX Nation : President Obama used his Labor Day weekend radio address to defend his economic record and vow to “keep fighting” for the country’s middle class. At the end of a long week which saw the national unemployment rate uptick from 9.5 percent to 9.6 percent and Obama come under criticism for calling this summer “Recovery Summer,” the president said he remained focused on the economy. But Obama first reminded listeners of the recession he inherited from Republican President George W. Bush in January 2009. “For a decade, middle class families felt the sting of stagnant incomes and declining economic security. Companies were rewarded with tax breaks for creating jobs overseas. Wall Street firms turned huge profits by taking, in some cases, reckless risks and cutting corners. All of this came at the expense of working Americans, who were fighting harder and harder just to stay afloat – often borrowing against inflated home values to pay their bills. Ultimately, the house of cards collapsed,” Obama said. “So this Labor Day, we should recommit ourselves to our time-honored values and to this fundamental truth: to heal our economy, we need more than a healthy stock market; we need bustling main streets and a growing, thriving middle class. That’s why I will keep working day-by-day to restore opportunity, economic security, and that basic American Dream for our families and future generations.”

Figures. Obama Bush-Bashes During Labor Day Speech
Paul Jim Kessler , who worked for then-Rep. Charles Schumer in 1994, argues that the Democrats can survive the 2010 midterms “the Reagan” way – i.e., the way the Republicans survived in 1982. Most of his argument consists, though, of trying to convince us that the Dems have a much better hand this year than they did in 1994. We won’t know for two months whether 2010 will be a better or worse year for the Democrats than 1994 was. But Kessler’s arguments are not persuasive. Kessler takes solace from the fact that “Nancy Pelosi is not Tom Foley.” That’s true – Foley (the Speaker in 1994) wasn’t a factor in any race but his own; Pelosi is widely and strongly disliked, and thus will weigh down Democrats across the country. Kessler also points out that “John Boehner is not Newt Gingrich.” True again. But the enthusiasm generated by the Contract With America in 1994 need not be generated out of Washington this year — the grassroots will fill the void. Indeed, because the Republican brand is not as popular as it was in 1994 (when memories of the Reagan administration were still vivid), a less-known, less-controversial Republican House leader may suit Republicans best this time out. Next, Kessler reminds us that “Charlie Rangel is not Don Rostenkowski.” In other words, there was more blatant corruption by Democratic Congressmen back then. But the Democrats of that era hadn’t just ridden to power promising to clean things up. And, even apart from the hypocrisy issue, the public’s standards probably weren’t as high back then. For example, earmarks had not yet become a dirty word. Kessler notes that “Tom Periello is not Jack Brooks.” He means that in 1994, many Democratic incumbents had held their seats for decades and “had forgotten how to run and raise money.” By contrast, most of the vulnerable incumbents this time are “young, hungry, and battle-tested.” But, unlike their elderly counterparts in 1994, they tend to come from districts that are red, or at least not blue. That certainly is true of Periello, who is trailing in the polls by something like 20 points. He may be young and hungry, but he and many like him were elected only as a result of the Democrat-friendly environment of 2006 and/or 2008. Thus, they aren’t as “tested” as Kessler supposes. Kessler’s last point of comparison is that “Obamacare is not Hillarycare.” Correct. Hillarycare didn’t pass, and thus only left Americans upset. Obamacare was pushed into law against the strong wishes of a clear majority of Americans. It has left a great many of them incensed. Finally, Kessler urges Obama to use Reagan’s 1982 playbook “by offering a more positive powerful, muscular view of what this country can achieve.” But Obama doesn’t do “powerful and muscular” well, at least not in the same sentence as “America.” And for a good reason – he is ambivalent about such an America. Reagan’s belief in that American was not only genuine, but consuming. Thus, he could run that “play” in good times and bad. Obama might be able to run it semi-convincingly in good times, but not now.

The Essential Global News Network’s fascination with Steven Slater continues. Mr. Slater (picture at right is from his Facebook page) is the JetBlue flight attendant who reportedly “grabbed the plane’s intercom and made an expletive-laced speech, grabbed a beer from the galley, opened the door and slid down the emergency evacuation chute.” Slater was charged with “criminal mischief and reckless endangerment.” Three weeks ago (covered at NewsBusters ; at BizzyBlog ), Associated Press writer Samantha Gross rhapsodized over how Slater’s actions had fulfilled “a working man’s fantasy … rekindled memories of workers’ liberation … (and) sparked wistful excitement among workers who have long fantasized of choosing pride over pay.” Before getting to the AP’s latest sympathetic piece, let’s take a look at something originally associated with a magazine report about Slater that is not currently present in that story. In a Google Web search on “Steven Slater” (not in quotes), here is the sixth result returned: Really? But when you go to the referenced People Magazine article , the statement cited in the result isn’t there, nor, as best I can tell, is it in the readers’ comments. Perhaps the statement was never written, but I doubt it, as the Internet has a funny way of leaving tracks. A search on the exact sentence involved (“On his Facebook and MySpace pages, he boasted about flying high and taking a five year break from the skies” — entered with quotes) returned 15 items (Google’s header says it’s 130, but it’s really 15, before adding “similar items”). Was everyone who noted this, especially this link , which appears to have captured People’s RSS feed, just making it up? With that little nugget as background, here is selected text from an unbylined AP story early this morning reporting that Slater will not be getting his job back (bolds are mine): Sometimes there’s no going back. JetBlue Airways says that there will be no second exits for famed flight attendant Steven Slater – who captured the nation’s imagination with his profanity-laced loudspeaker tirade and jump down a plane’s emergency chute, beer in hand. Spokeswoman Jenny Dervin said Saturday that Slater is no longer employed by the airline. She said the airline won’t release further details out of respect for Slater’s privacy. Slater’s lawyer had said he loved flying and wanted to return to work, and Slater’s folk-hero status among tens of thousands of online fans had led some of them to urge the airline to keep him on. The airline said at the time of the incident last month that Slater was suspended pending an investigation. It told employees in a memo that press coverage was not taking into account how much harm can be caused by emergency slides, which are deployed with a potentially deadly amount of force. The former flight attendant still has to navigate the criminal justice system. Given how sympathetic the wire service has been to his plight, and assuming he avoids jail, I have a perfect suggestion for who should be Slater’s next employer. He apparently won’t have to worry about whether he has a supportive environment. Cross-posted at BizzyBlog.com .

AP: ‘Famed Flight Attendant … Captured the Nation’s Imagination’
-By Warner Todd Huston He grew up in Indonesia, his father was a Kenyan, and he’s been fighting the perception that he isn’t much of an American since he became a nationally known entity. Unfortunately for President Obama, his redecoration of the Oval Office is not helping by making him seem just as ignorant about America as his critics claim. This latest gaffe is in the expensive rug he commissioned that has woven onto it a quote mis-attributed to Martin Luther King, Jr. Obama’s rug has attributed to King an oft-repeated line, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” Sure King said it. But even King reminded people that he wasn’t its creator. Jamie Stiehm has the facts regarding this quote. It was originated by the 19th century champion of social progress, Theodore Parker . Parker was a staunch anti-slavery man who died just on the eve of the American civil war, a man involved in every reform effort of his day, quite a radical for his time. He even supported domestic terrorist John Brown and supplied money for guns to be used in the “Bloody Kansas” fights over slavery. King admired this white man who fought to end slavery and used his phrase many times — with full attribution, of course. Sadly, Obama and his rug makers did not do their due diligence and research these quotes properly because they’ve attributed Parker’s inspiring words to King. This is just one more incident that lends credence to the feeling that Barack Obama has no real feel for America, no connection to her history, and no grasp of what it is to be American. Like his mis-attributed quote, Barack Obama is only an inch deep American. Sure he and his slipshod researchers knew that there was some famous quote or another, but they just weren’t informed enough about America to get the source of that quote right. Worse, it is a misappropriation of words connected to Martin Luther King, Jr., the one historical figure that this president aboce all should have taken care to get right. Is this misquote the end of the world? No, of course not. But it is just another small piece of evidence that points to the fact that this president is essentially disconnected from the country he is supposed to be leading. Barack Obama really isn’t much of an American.

Called on the Carpet: Obama’s New WH Rug Muffs History
Interesting piece over at Newsweek that takes you inside Al Qaeda thru the eyes of a young jihadi recruit in the tribal area….. its quite long ….stick with it….interesting inside jihad stuff for those of us who track this stuff. The incident didn’t get much international attention at the time: just another Predator strike on suspected jihadis in the mountains of North Waziristan. This one took place on March 16 at a compound near the town of Datta Khel. Several news services ran items, although they differed on almost every important detail. Hafiz Hanif saw it happen. The young Afghan and other members of his Al Qaeda unit were passing through the area in two cars when they made a stop outside a big walled compound, and Hanif was sent to fetch some supplies that had been left there a few days earlier. He knocked at the front door and then politely turned away, toward the cars. In Pashtun country it’s considered rude to wait facing someone’s door, in case it happens to be answered by a woman. But as Hanif’s gaze passed over the cars, one of them exploded. Moments later the other blew up. The roaring blasts from the American Hellfire missiles knocked him down. When the dust cleared, there was only a tangled mess of smoking metal where the cars had been. Seven Al Qaeda Arabs, including a ranking Syrian and an Egyptian, had been killed instantly. But Hanif found a badly injured fighter and tried to help him. “He had serious head and chest injuries,” Hanif tells NEWSWEEK. “He died in my lap.” Hanif (the name he asks us to use) is staying with his parents at their home near Karachi for now, and they’re doing their best to keep him there. He’s only 16, and they never approved of his running off to join the jihad. He’s a bright student, good at math and fluent in English and Arabic as well as Urdu and Pashto. Yet he also spent much of the past 18 months training and working with Al Qaeda in Pakistan’s tribal areas and across the border in Afghanistan. We have checked out his account as far as it could be confirmed, and his uncle, a senior Taliban official who backs up the boy’s story, has been a reliable source to Newsweek in the past. After Hanif disappeared in February 2009, the uncle and the boy’s father traveled twice to Waziristan in search of him. The father finally found him on the second trip, after two months of looking, but the boy would not leave his Arab friends until months later, when his mother’s desperate pleading finally prevailed. Seems our young recruit has even seen our buddy Adam Gadahan up until recently….when AQ’s senior leaders went underground due to the increase of Predator strikes. Hanif freely admits he knows nothing of Al Qaeda’s overall strategy, and says he has no idea how many other Qaeda operatives may operate in the orbit of senior leaders like bin Laden and his No. 2, Ayman al-Zawahiri. In his 18 months with Al Qaeda, Hanif says, no one he met had any clue to the whereabouts of either one—and yet all fought eagerly in their names. He speaks as breathlessly as any starstruck teenager about prominent jihadis he has encountered. His list includes Baitullah Mehsud and his successor as head of the Pakistani Taliban, Hakimullah Mehsud; Al Qaeda’s reputed No. 3 leader, Abu Yahya al-Libi; and Adam Gadahn, a.k.a. Azzam al-Amriki, the “American Taliban.” In the past six months, though, high-ranking Qaeda figures have largely disappeared as a result of the worsening Predator threat. “They have all gone underground,” Hanif says. “I used to see Azzam al-Amriki, but he also has disappeared.” And one other thing this is for Samir Khan…..hey Sammi….you won’t even hear it went it comes for you. The sound of the drones in the sky is so incessant you stop noticing it, like the buzzing of insects, Hanif says. “You don’t see or hear anything before the missile’s impact.” He says the aftermath of a drone attack can be particularly hard. He recalls spending hours searching the rubble alongside other fighters after an attack that killed a Qaeda commander known as Abu Suleiman. They eventually found his head. After another drone attack, they dug for eight to nine hours in the debris of a collapsed house to try to find a Qaeda fighter, his wife, and his kids who had been killed. “We finally found parts of them,” Hanif recalls, “but not all of them.” Sammi they aren’t even going to find most of your body parts………..:-)

Paul Michael Oren, Israel’s stellar ambassador to the U.S., is warning that Hezbollah has amassed an arsenal of approximately 15,000 rockets in South Lebanon, near the border with Israel. That’s about four times more than Hezbollah had in 2006, when it launched constant rocket attacks deep into Northern Israel. Moreover, according to Oren, Hezbollah’s rockets can now reach every Israeli city, even Eliat in the South. To make matters worse, this time Hezbollah has placed its rockets under hospitals, homes and schools. So, if Israel were to try to take the rockets out, it would face howls of protest from the “international community” including, I suspect, President Obama. Israel may well have to pay a steep price for its cautious approach to the 2006 fight against Hezbollah and for not finishing that fight.
